Waterhaul Founder Harry Dennis In Conversation With Boatfolk
WATERHAUL STORIES
When Boatfolk, a group of 11 marinas throughout the UK reached out and invited Harry to chat with them about how and why he started Waterhaul and what our aims for the future are, he didn't hesitate to jump on a podcast with them to share our story.
Harry spoke with Dominic from Boatfolk about how growing up by the coast, studying marine biology and working for ocean activism brand, Surfers Against Sewerage, all led to his decision to tackle the ocean plastic crisis head on by founding Waterhaul.
"A few years ago plastic pollution was all over the headlines, yet all you were hearing about in the media were the plastic straws and carrier bags. But if you look at the ocean and listen to what the science is finding is out in the ocean, it's not plastic straws, the most common, most abundant form of plastic in the ocean is fishing gear."

The conversation continues with Harry explaining how we recover the nets, the time, effort, planning and hard work that goes into every net collection mission to recover ghost gear from the oceans and shorelines. They talk about the challenges of growing the net recovery program and the successes to date.
We'd like to thank Boatfolk for inviting Harry to take part in their podcast. You can listen to the Waterhaul podcast episode featuring Harry above and find more episodes of their podcast available here.
